Driver escapes serious injury in two vehicle crash

Canterbury Police attended a two vehicle crash at the intersection of SH73 West Coast Road and Chattertons Road near Yaldhurst shortly before 10am this morning (5 May 2015).  A light commercial truck is reported to have collided with the rear of a west-bound truck and semi-trailer unit on SH73.

Both drivers are understood to have been wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.

Canterbury Police investigations into the crash are ongoing.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck and semi-trailer unit was uninjured.  However the driver and sole occupant of the light commercial truck was taken to Christchurch Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries and cuts to his right knee.

Canterbury Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident this morning but was unable to stay at the scene to contact them.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Canterbury Police on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and quoting the date and location of the crash.

This is a timely reminder of how wearing appropriate restraints in vehicles can help reduce the severity of injuries sustained during a crash.
