Driver arrested following single vehicle crash in Linwood

1 min read

Canterbury Police arrested the driver of a car involved in a single vehicle crash near the junction of Worcester St and Linwood Ave shortly before 4pm yesterday (27 January 2015).

The 30 year old man driving the Blue BMW saloon is reported to have crashed into wooden bollards near a walkway before fleeing the scene.  He was located a short time later following reported sightings from a member of the public.  He was uninjured in the crash.

The man was arrested and lifted into a Police vehicle as he was unable to stand under his own volition.    He is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today (28 January 2015) charged with driving while disqualified, careless operation of a vehicle and refusing a request to supply blood.

Acting Canterbury Police Road Policing Manager, Acting Inspector Phil Newton, says “We recommend that anyone who has been drinking does not drive.  Alcohol has been a factor in many serious and fatal crashes in Canterbury and it’s disappointing that someone who was unable to walk unsupported had been driving in the city.  It was lucky that no-one was injured as a result of the irresponsible actions of this driver. “

Always call or text 111 in an emergency.
