A Manawatu Police Dog Handler and his Police Dog have been attacked while attending a domestic incident in Health Place, Palmerston North this morning.
At about 11.08am Police were called to a domestic incident in Health Place, Awapuni.
A Dog Unit was deployed at the scene and located a male offender a short time later.
While endeavouring to effect the arrest the Officer has been assaulted by a family member of the offender and the Police Dog has been injured.
The Officer received minor head injuries.
The Police Dog has been treated by a Veterinarian and stood down from duty for the remainder of today.
It is expected the Police Dog will resume duty later in the week.
Four members of one family were arrested, two of which will remain in Police Custody to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Wednesday, 15 October 2014.
A 50 year old man will face charges of Assaults Police, Obstruct Police and Injures Police Dog.
The 19 year old will face a raft of charges including Injuring a Police Dog and Burglary.
A 37 year old female has been released on Police Bail to appear in the Palmerston North District Court on Thursday, 16 October 2014 on an Obstruction charge.
A 13 year old female will be referred to Youth Aid.
