At 3.20am on Monday 11th January 2016, Police were advised of a crash on State Highway 5, (Napier-Taupo Road) approximately 5 kilometres north of Te Pohue.
A Toyota van has left the road and gone 6 metres down a bank.
Two occupants of the vehicle were trapped and Fire Service has extracted one female from the vehicle, she was being taken by ambulance to Hastings Hospital.
Later the male occupant was also extracted and taken in another ambulance to hospital.
Both occupants, the only occupants of the vehicle have moderate to serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and the road remains open, but reduced to one lane at the crash site.
