Following successful events in 2013 and 2014, Counties Manukau Police presents another opportunity to get up close and personal with the Everyday Heroes that keep you safe in the community, an event supported by Auckland Council and Botany Town Centre. Between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 28 March at Botany Town Centre, a range of interesting and exciting emergency services displays and demonstrations will be on show for the whole family to enjoy.
With not only the Police, Fire Service and St John's attending, the efforts of other organisations, groups and volunteers that help keep the community safe will also be celebrated.
Counties Manukau Police District Commander Superintendent John Tims says the day has proved to be a great success over the past two years, and Police are relishing the opportunity to continue engaging the community in the work they do.
"People are always interested in the work we do so we want get the community involved to see how it all works," he says. "The event allows us to show everyone firsthand all the exciting things that happen behind the scenes, while keeping it engaging and fun. We are delighted that other community organisations are joining in to really make it a day to remember.
"Our goal is to keep everyone safe and ensure they feel safe in Counties Manukau and we hope that the Everyday Heroes event will help us achieve this. Every year emergency services are called to thousands of incidents that affect the community so it's definitely a relevant cause."
The free 'access all areas' event will include performances from community groups, a Police Physical Competency demonstration and top Counties Manukau Detectives sharing their skills in crime scene examination, exhibiting their impressive skills with serious crime case study. Fire trucks and ambulances will be at the event, along with the Armed Offenders Squad, Police Recruiting, Police Maritime Unit, Customs and many others. Police horses and motorbikes will also be present and available for photo opportunities.
"The whole family will be able to see how the emergency services work and experience what they do each day to be our Everyday Heroes," says Mr Tims. "It's essential that we get the community involved in the work we do."
Entry is free for this family friendly event, so do not miss out. The event will take place along Town Centre Drive and in the car park opposite ASB Bank at Botany Town Centre.

Throughout the day:
• See Police officers take on the Police Competency Test (physical test) and test your skills in a push ups or jump test. Can you pass the test?
• The Counties Manukau Police Choir will be making a number of performances throughout the day – don’t miss out on seeing this popular group!
• Police Dogs will be attending dependent on operational Police requirements on the day.
• Children (and adults!) can get their photo taken on the Police motorbike, with an Armed Offenders Squad member and with official Police horses.
• The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust flight simulator will be on site – find out what it’s like to ride in a helicopter!
• Community Patrols NZ (CPNZ) will be on site to assist motorists with the Safer Plates initiative – make sure your number plates can’t be stolen and used in crime!
• Children's entertainment including bouncy castles will be available.
