Police believe the community of Kawerau will have information that is vital to the investigation of a shooting in the town this morning.
Two men remain in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital following the shooting at a property on River Road at approximately 6.15am.
A dark-coloured sedan was seen leaving the scene of the shooting and police are seeking information to identify and locate this vehicle.
At approximately 9.45am police received information related to the shooting that led police to attend and search a property in Valley Road. Police are speaking with two people from that address but no one has been arrested in relation to the shooting.
A cordon remains in place around the River Road address for the purposes of a scene examination. That cordon is expected to be in place for at least the rest of today.
Acting Area Commander Greg Standen said: “Everything we know so far indicates that these two men were targeted by a group of people. We have nothing to suggest that there are fears for anyone else’s safety at this stage. I want to reassure the community that we are across this incident; we have a large number of staff in the area and are confident that with the hard work of our team and the assistance from the public we can move towards an early resolution.”
