Community helping Waitemata Police in sexual assault investigation

1 min read

Police in West Auckland have received dozens of calls in relation to the abduction and sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy in the Ranui area, on Thursday afternoon (17 November).

“We are grateful to the community for contacting us with valuable information, which we are assessing and following up on. We are also reviewing CCTV footage,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh.

“Police and partner agencies are continuing to support the boy and his family. However, due to the nature of the incident, Police will not be in a position to speak with the victim until the middle of next week.

“Additional patrols will be evident in the area over the next few days. In the meantime, I would like to repeat our appeal for sightings of a grey van, between approximately 3.55pm and 8pm on Thursday,” he says.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Senior Sergeant Jason McIntosh on 021 191 2659.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
