Canterbury Police SAR led an operation to locate a missing 4x4 vehicle and driver who was reported missing shortly after 7pm last night (31 May 2015) in North Canterbury.
The vehicle was located at around 9.30pm last night down a bank. The body of a man believed to be the driver was recovered a short distance from the vehicle.
The death has been referred to the Coroner. No details of the deceased man will be released until formal identification and the process to inform next of kin has been completed.
Officers from Canterbury Police, SAR and the Serious Crash Unit are undertaking a scene examination today.
Investigations are continuing.
No further details are available at this time but an update will be provided at some point tomorrow (2 June 2015).
