Police are appealing for the public’s assistance to establish how a man suffered serious injuries in Grey Lynn late last week.
On 4 May, members of the public called for an ambulance after a man was seen falling onto a footpath on Williamson Avenue at about 8.45am.
Police were later notified of the incident, and we have since been undertaking enquiries to establish how this has occurred and whether there are any suspicious circumstances.
The 53-year-old man sustained serious head and facial injuries as a result. He remains in a critical condition in Auckland City Hospital.
At this point, Police have established the man, who lives in the wider area, was riding a bicycle around the Grey Lynn shops on Great North Road at around 8am on Thursday.
The man was also seen walking with a woman on Tuarangi Road at 8.25am. There is nothing to suggest this woman was involved in inflicting any injuries on the man, however we would like to speak with her about the interaction with him.
The woman is described as Caucasian, with long light-coloured hair and wearing glasses. She was wearing a blue dress and white shoes.
The man collapsed at around 8.45am, near the intersection with Grosvenor Street.
Importantly for Police, the man did not have his bike with him at the time he fell onto the footpath.
Accordingly, we are asking anyone in the area who may have seen the man riding his bike on Thursday morning between 8-8.45am in Grey Lynn to contact us.
Police are also issuing CCTV images capturing the man last Thursday as part of this appeal.
There may be the possibility someone has come across this bike since then, and we would like to hear from them to assist this investigation.
Police are continuing to keep an open mind around these unexplained injuries and whether anything untoward has happened to the man prior to an ambulance being called.
