With children across the country returning to school tomorrow drivers in Hawke’s Bay are reminded to slow down and by attention around schools.
Hawke’s Bay Police will have a visible presence around schools, monitoring the speed and parking actions of drivers.
Children can be unpredictable and drivers need to take this into account when travelling in school zones, said Senior Sergeant David Sutherland.
The start and end of the school day can be chaos with kids coming and going and often cars double parked or stopping on yellow lines.
Senior Sergeant Sutherland says Police will be looking out for anyone who may be parking or stopping illegally around schools and taking enforcement action where necessary.
While drivers need to slow down and pay attention around schools it is also just as important for pedestrians to stick to the footpath and utilise pedestrian crossings.
