Auckland City Police are investigating an armed robbery at a Mt Albert Petrol Station early this morning.
The incident took place at the Mobil on the corner of Owairaka Avenue and Tyburnia Street, at around 6am, just after the shop had opened for business.
Two men entered the premises armed with a baseball bat, hammer and a meat cleaver and threatened the lone shop attendant. Both were heavily disguised and had their faces and heads covered.
The offenders demanded money and cigarettes, striking the employee on the head, before fleeing with a quantity of money, cigarettes and tobacco.
The victim received medical treatment for minor injuries but is very shaken.
The offenders fled in a white sedan-style vehicle with a numberplate that possibly begins with FHP9.
Detective Sergeant David Paea, Auckland City Police says, "We'd like to hear from anyone in the Mt Albert area who may have seen anything suspicious. It's the time of the year when lots of people are out for early morning walks and we'd encourage anyone who was out and about this morning to think back to whether they saw two men in a car fitting this description."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Auckland City Police on 09 302 6557.
Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
