Police are investigating two acts of arson in the Wellington suburb of Lyall Bay that occurred sometime between 1am and 3am on Saturday May 30.
The first fire was set in the grounds of Lyall Bay School and caused significant damage to a large area of Astroturf.
In a similar incident believed to be related a second fire was discovered near a children’s playground on Lyall Bay Parade.
Both fires were attended by the Wellington Fire Service and Police and investigations continue.
Constable Oliver Crellin says, “Police are concerned about the damaged caused to the school grounds and it is lucky nearby buildings did not catch fire. We are actively working to identify those responsible”.
