Arrest made following serious assault

Just after midnight on Sunday 22nd July a man presented at Hawke’s Bay Hospital with critical injuries.

Police have since been making enquiries to establish how the man received these injuries.

As a result, this morning a search warrant was carried out by Napier Police and the AOS at a Williams Street, Marewa address.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in Hastings District Court today.

The address will be examined by forensics today as Police continue to make further enquiries into the assault.

The victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
