Arrest following investigation into Hutt Valley assault

Hutt Valley Police investigating the sexual and physical assault of woman along the Hutt Riverbank near Melling on Thursday 11 June have today arrested and charged a 17-year-old local man. 

He faces multiple counts of sexual violation and charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, abduction and threatening to kill.

He is scheduled to appear in the Lower Hutt District Court tomorrow (Saturday 20 June).

"Police appreciate the help of those members of the public who have provided information that has assisted us with our investigation to date. While an arrest has now been made, there is still a large amount of work to be done, and we still welcome anyone who may have information that could assist us to make contact," says Detective Sergeant Nick Pritchard of Lower Hutt CIB.

The woman has been kept informed throughout the investigation and is continuing to receive appropriate support.
