Armed Offenders call out in Manakau, Levin

At about 9pm on Wednesday 30th December 2015, Police were advised of an incident at the Waikawa Camping Ground, near Manakau, south of Levin.

Police received reports of a disagreement between campers, with reports of one camper having a knife and threatening others, it was also alleged the male had fired some shots from an air rifle.

The Palmerston North Police Armed offenders Squad along with the Levin Police responded to the camping ground.

On entering the camping ground Police located two air rifles and a machete.

One male was detained and is assisting Police with their enquiries.  

An ambulance that was on standby at the cordon entered the camping ground to treat one person who had been injured; he was treated for a laceration to his eye.

There will be no further press release until after 0900hrs on Thursday 31 January 2015.
