Palmerston North Police are investigating an aggravated robbery committed at the Pizza Hutt on Boradway Ave, Palmerston North last night.

Two, possibly three, offenders have entered the store shortly before closing, one offender armed with a machete. The offenders were heavily disguised during the incident, one of them was wearing a hi-vis vest.

Money was demanded from two staff present. The staff members were understandably shaken but not physically harmed during the incident. The offenders made off with a quantity of cash after remaining in the store for several minutes.

The offenders have fled the area in a dark coloured vehicle, described as a reasonably late model car. This vehicle had been parked in a nearby alleyway immediately prior to the robbery. The offenders’ fled at speed along Albert Street then east bound along Main Street towards the city boundary.

Police want to hear from any members of the public who saw any suspicious people or dark coloured vehicles in the area of Pizza Hutt (near the corner of Broadway Avenue and Albert Street) at around the time of the robbery. The public are also encouraged to report any suspicious sightings of a dark coloured vehicle in the Awapuni and Kelvin Grove areas, particularly near Roberts Line.
