Seventy four new constables will join police ranks in Auckland on Monday 30 June 2003, having been recruited as experienced police officers in the United Kingdom.
The Graduation Parade for the British High Commission Wing 212 will take place at The Royal New Zealand Police College, Porirua, on Thursday 26 June 2003, from 2:00pm. It will be attended by the Minister of Police, the Hon George Hawkins, Acting Police Commissioner Steve, and British High Commissioner, Mr Richard Fell.
Wing 212, which consists solely of UK recruits, represents a special venture by New Zealand Police with the assistance of New Zealand Immigration, to fill vacancies in the Auckland region emanating from by new policing initiatives over the past 18 months.
Wing 212 is graduating from a specially tailored 11-week recruit conversion course that has recognised their previous experience, knowledge and skills. They will start as probationary constables on frontline patrol and traffic duties and their prior learning and experience will be taken into account during their probationary period and for promotional opportunities.
• 74 recruits will graduate -- 68 males and 6 females.
• All recruits will go to the Auckland districts.
• Recruits will go to Counties / Manukau (37), Auckland City (34) and North Shore / Waitakere (3).
A haka has been specially written for Wing 212 by Ngati Toa, which the wing will perform at their graduation.

• Patron’s Prize for Third in Wing was awarded to Constable Angus McKay, posted to Auckland District.
• The Physical Education Trophy was awarded to Constable Anthony Sullivan, posted to Counties / Manukau District.
• The Meltzer Prize for Weapon Training was awarded to Constable Christopher Chatterley, posted to Auckland District.
• The International Police Association Prize for Driver Training was awarded to Constable Helen Chiell posted to Auckland District, who also won the Ericsson Communications I & T Prize.
• The Jesson Forensics Prize for Fingerprint Techniques was awarded to Constable Mark Fleming, posted to Counties / Manukau District.
Police Association Prizes for Sectional Achievement:
This prize is awarded to an individual from each section who, in the collective view of the members of the section and the wing instructors, made the greatest contribution to the overall success of the team.
