Waitakere Police believe that three recent burglaries of jewellery shops are linked and ask the public to be on the lookout for cheap Casio G-Shock watches.
Over the three burglaries about 200 men’s and women’s Casio watches were stolen. The first burglary occurred at Christies Jewellers in Lynn Mall at 3.00am on Tuesday, 20 May.
"The offenders pulled a display case of G-Shock watches from its base in the shop and carried away the entire unit," says Raelene Larson, Waitakere Police Intel Section.
"They have done the same with a cabinet containing chains, though this was dropped in the mall and left behind after the chains were removed. They have then pulled open a locked display cabinet of rings and removed a tray of about 20 rings."
Just after midnight on Saturday, 24 May 2003, Christies Jewellers in Westcity was hit. The offenders were disturbed by the shop owner, who was inside doing paperwork. The only descriptions are:
• 2 male offenders
• Dark skin but one was not Maori or Polynesian
• 160cm and 170 cm tall
"The third burglary happened at 12.30 am at the New Lynn shop again, where the offenders once again able stole a display unit of G-shock watches and wedding bands," Ms Larson says.
A vehicle possibly linked to the burglary is described as a two-toned grey Subaru legacy (light colour on top and dark on the bottom).
