Teenager threatened after being followed by a car

1 min read

Police want to identify a car and its occupants after an incident which began on the Paraparas and culminated in a teenager being threatened in Wanganui.

The incident started around 11am on Sunday, 28 June when an 18-year-old Wanganui man, who was driving alone in a black hatchback towards Wanganui on State Highway 4, started being followed closely by a silver vehicle.

The four occupants of the silver car began throwing bottles and cans at his vehicle and continued to follow him into Wanganui. Once in the town the victim, believing the offenders had disappeared, stopped on Taupo Quay near Victoria Ave to check on his vehicle. The time was now around 11.25am. At this point a man from the silver vehicle approached with a balaclava over his face.

He threatened the victim with physical injury, but then left. The victim was not assaulted.

The offending vehicle is described as being a silver liftback and in very good condition. There were at least four occupants who were all believed to be men. No further descriptions are available at this stage.

Anyone with information relating to the sliver vehicle or the occupants are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Varnia Allan at Wanganui Police Station, on 06 349 0600.

Media enquiries should be referred to Communications Manager Kim Perks on 06 351 2546 or 027 234 8256.
