The Waitemata Police District is to continue its priority focus on burglary after the first phase of Operation CBD was successfully completed in months of April and May.
The District previously recorded an increase in house burglary as high as 20% but this has since been reduced as a result of Operation CBD where the police attention has been on burglary offenders, victims and locations.
Commencing in early July there will be a similar six week operation where significant additional resources will be applied to the house burglary problem. There will be a strong focus on recidivist burglary offenders in the District which covers the environs of North Shore, Waitakere, and Rodney.
The public can play an important role. One in five house burglaries in Waitemata transpire where homes are left insecure. Police urge people to lock their homes and ensure that every possible effort is made to make it as difficult as possible for burglars. Crime prevention advice is available from the police website or your nearest police station.
The police also need your help in identifying stolen property. Property marking and recording of serial numbers is important as a deterrent, investigative tool, and to aid with any insurance claim.
Acting District Commander Les Paterson says that "reporting of suspicious behaviour" is extremely valuable, because people can call on their cell-phones as they witness events unfolding, enabling a response that will often result in an arrest.
