1 min read

The name of a Matamata schoolboy who died after being struck down by a car near the town on Friday afternoon has been released.

He was Jordan Robert Eastgate, 12, of Matamata.

Jordan's death has been referred to the Coroner.

In an emotional plea a family spokesman has asked media harassment of the family to allow them to grieve and prepare for Jordan's funeral.

The preliminary scene examination by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit of where the incident took place has been completed and Police have interviewed the female driver of the car.

Crash investigators will return to the scene over the next few days for follow up examinations.

Waikato Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said the only word to describe Friday's incident was 'tragedy'.

"I would again like to take this opportunity to remind people of the speed limit when approaching a school bus dropping off or picking up children is 20km/h.

"That applies to traffic travelling in either direction, in addition driving with your headlights makes your vehicle easier to be seen by older people and youngsters."
