NEW CORDONS IN PLACE - NAPIER SHOOTING

1 min read

Police have moved the cordons around streets on Napier Hill now that the Chaucer Rd incident has been resolved.

The new cordons have been reduced to form a loose circle around the Botanical Gardens on Hospital Hill.

Police say while some residents in the area can return to their homes, some cannot. There is still a risk to residents who live near the Chaucer Rd house where the incident occurred.

Explosives were found in the house and they are yet to be removed. It may take up to 2 days for a specialist bomb squad to clear the house.

The roads within the new cordon are Chaucer Rd South, Guys Hill Rd, Napier Terrace (from Chaucer Rd to Spencer Rd), all of Spencer Rd and Enfield Rd.

Plans are being made for residents in the Simla Tce, Havelock Rd areas to gain access from Main St, Corunna Bay. The access steps from Faraday St to Guys Hill Rd will also be closed.

Works Infrastructure staff will be manning the roadblocks.

Police say the roadblocks will be in place for 1 or 2 days. It was not known specifically when they would be lifted.

Police are asking for the public's continued co-operation and understanding over the next few days as the investigation continues.
