At the midway point of the school holidays Hamilton Police are warning parents to remind their children of stranger danger following a man's inappropriate behaviour towards two girls in Maeroa this week.
Detective Sergeant Robbie Hermann of the Hamilton CIB said Police received a complaint about the man's actions on Tuesday.
"Two primary school aged girls were playing in a church yard in Maeroa about 3pm when they were approached by a man they didn't know who asked them of the whereabouts of someone unknown to them.
"It appears the man has then made inappropriate requests of a sexual nature towards the girls and produced what may have been a camera."
Mr Hermann said the man was described as wearing a baseball cap, red T-shirt and grey pants but the girls were unable to determine his ethnicity.
"Obviously Police take reports of this nature very seriously and we're asking anyone who may recall someone matching this man's description in the area of Rimu, Matai & Miro Streets in Maeroa on Tuesday afternoon to contact us.
"This incident serves as a timely reminder to parents and caregivers to be mindful of where their children are at all times and risks posed to children from people they don't know."
Mr Hermann said parents should inform their children that if approached by someone they are not familiar with they should seek the help of the nearest trusted adult.
