Police Search For Occupants Of Stolen Vehicle

North Shore Police have issued a description of two persons whom they believe may be able to assist them with their inquiries into this morning's incident in Takapuna in which a police constable was seriously injured.

Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong of the North Shore CIB says a male and female were reported asking for directions in Tauhinu Road, Greenhithe at about 2.00pm this afternoon.

"They have since become persons of interest in our ongoing enquiries into identifying the occupants of a stolen vehicle abandoned in the mudflats at Beachhaven earlier today. We would like to speak to these two individuals so that we can eliminate them from our investigation," he said.

Police have issued the following descriptions.

MALE - aged in his 20's

Maori with a pale skin

Medium height and build

Wearing shorts only - no other clothing

FEMALE - age unknown

Maori

Shoulder length black hair

Wearing white top, shorts.

Police urge anyone who knows the identity of these two persons to contact them at the North Shore Policing Centre on 09 477 5000, or the confidential crime line 027 27 27 669

A 28 year old South Auckland unemployed male has since been charged with burglary and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. He'll appear in the North Shore District Court tomorrow. Police have not ruled out further charges.

Meanwhile the injured police officer is slowly recovering in hospital. He is not expected to be discharged for several days.

The maximum penalty for unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle is two years imprisonment. The maximum penalty for burglary is ten years imprisonment.
