Mangere Police wish to speak to 30 year old Talilotu-I-Fanga TUPOU in connection with a hit and run incident which occurred on the 20th October 2008.
TUPOU currently has warrants for his arrest for failing to appear in the Manukau District Court on the 20th August 2008.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karyn Malthus states that a Nissan Courier Ute, Regno ATY108, was involved in a serious injury hit and run on Massey Road, Mangere, near Vine Street. The driver, who has yet to be identified, did not stop to check on the victim, instead sped off.
Eye witnesses describe this vehicle overtaking another car whilst travelling at high speed and colliding with a 42 year old male who had been crossing the road with his wife.
The victim suffered extensive injuries such as a dislocated shoulder and fractured pelvis requiring surgery and is still undergoing treatment, four months later. The ute was found a short time later abandoned in a nearby street.
Ms Malthus states that they wish to speak to TUPOU in connection with this incident because he was stopped by Police in this vehicle in July 2008; therefore Police believe he may be able to help Police with their enquiries into this hit and run.
DSS Malthus adds that it is likely that TUPOU does not know that Police are seeking his assistance in this hit and run incident and ask that he contacts Police promptly to assist them and he can clear up his outstanding warrants at the same time.
