Youths Arrested On Firearms Charges

Police have arrested two 17 year old males after separate firearms incidents in two North Shore suburbs last night.

Police say that at 6.00pm Monday 16 March 2009 a female in Beach Haven reported being shot with an air gun while walking on Rangitira road. She suffered bruising and a small minor wound to her leg.

At 9.30pm a second female reported being shot in Glenfield by a similar weapon. She received a minor wound to her hand. The victims told police the shots were fired from a passing vehicle.

Soon after the second incident a police patrol located and arrested the two offenders. A gas powered pistol and supply of plastic pellets were recovered.

The two youths will appear in the North Shore District Court next week charged with two counts of recklessly discharging a firearm, and one charge each of unlawful possession of an air gun. The penalty for these offences is.

  • Reckless discharge - three years imprisonment and/or $4,000 fine  • Unlawful possession - three months imprisonment and/or $1,000 fine
