Police pursuit, - one charged

At approximately 11.50 pm on Tuesday, 3 March 2009, a sole Police vehicle pursued a car in Redwood, Christchurch.

The pursuit concluded when Police turned into a dead-end street and lost sight of the fleeing vehicle. However, the area was cordoned off by other Police vehicles.

Some minutes later, Police were advised by a member of the public that a vehicle had hit a tree. When attending the scene, Police located the same vehicle.

There were four occupants; three of whom were injured and one requiring to be cut from the vehicle.

A 21 year old male has been charged with Failing to Stop, Dangerous Driving Causing Injury, Driving while Disqualified, Refusing Officer's Request for a Blood Sample and Insulting Language.

He is to appear in the Christchurch District Court today, 4 March 2009.

Injuries to the three male occupants are still to be confirmed, but do not appear to be life threatening.
