Missing persons in Hamilton

27 February 2009

In a busy night Hamilton Police have been searching for two children and an elderly woman missing in separate incidents and still unaccounted for.

In the first incident a neighbour notified Police something was amiss at a Te Rapa Rd address about 8.30pm when it was noticed a woman's flat was wide open and a dog distressed but no-one appeared home.

Police arrived to find doors and windows open and the television on but no sign of the occupant, Cynthia Bulman.

Subsequent checks with Waikato Hospital and accident and emergency centres failed to locate the 65-year-old who is known to have a heart condition.

Searches continued throughout the night while other staff began canvassing friends relatives and other contacts.

While this was going on a report came through shortly after midnight of two children missing in Hamilton East for several hours.

The pair, a 10-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were last seen in the vicinity of Cassidy St around 7.30pm.

To make things difficult the 10-year-old, who recently moved to an Old Farm Rd address from Napier, has a history of absconding and is known to actively avoid Police.

The 8-year-old has no previous history of staying out overnight but is said to have very good knowledge of the local area.

The pair are described as Taylor Jade THOMPSON, a 10-year-old male Caucasian, last seen wearing a blue T -shirt with light blue sleeves and blue 3/4 length pants, possibly bare foot with short brown hair and a red rinse and Devante MIHINUI, an 8-year-old Maori boy, last seen wearing a purple and white top with writing on it front and back, black 3/4 shorts and a silver watch.

Devante is described as being about 5ft tall and of slim build.

Hamilton Police hold genuine concern for the safety of each of the missing people and ask anyone with any information to contact either 111 or the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 8586200.
