On Tuesday 10 February 2009 at 11:00am, the Com-Be Zone (Community Behaviour Zone) agreement for Riccarton will be signed at the Bush Inn Bar, corner Riccarton and Waimairi Roads.
Com-Be Zone is a new initiative being piloted in Riccarton. It is designed to target public drunkenness.
The scheme will initially include the following businesses:
University of Canterbury Students Assn Foundry Bar,
Lone Star/Bush Inn bar,
Fox and Ferret,
Woolworths, Bush Inn Centre
Countdown, Church Corner,
Pak n Save, Westfield Mall,
Liquor King, Bush Inn Centre.
Any staff employed by the signatories will be able to ban any person from drinking or purchasing alcohol from all of the premises listed.
Persons who may be banned will be those who are acting inappropriately either on a premise or in a public place. This behaviour could fall short of criminal behaviour.
This will be achieved by group texting of the offenders name and date of birth.
The purpose of the ban is to impose a social penalty on the offender disturbing the purchasing ability and their social network.
