An impassioned plea has been made by Kate Alkema’s husband, Peter-John, for anyone who has any information that may help the Police to find Kate’s killer to please come forward and call 0800 666 995.
Peter-John said it would have been their 10th wedding anniversary tomorrow (17 April).
The green light windbreaker Kate was wearing when she left her home early on Saturday morning has been handed in. It was found on a seat on the Ewen Bridge that crosses the Hutt River at the south end of the city centre at around 9.30 to 10.00 on Saturday morning.
A Nike Max Air running shoe, similar to that worn by Kate, has also been found on the riverbank almost midway between the Ewen Bridge and where Kate’s body was discovered.
Kate was also seen in Block Road behind the Melling Railway station between 10.15 and 10.30 am on Saturday morning.
Operation Melling head, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, has asked for anyone who may have sighted Kate on the Saturday morning in the hours between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm to please contact Police.
"We are very keen to hear from anyone who saw Kate along the route we think she took during her walk."
The Route: along Gordon street, across High Street, into Frederick Street, across Avalon Park to the Kennedy Good bridge before walking south along the riverbank on the eastern side of the river. She has then crossed the river at either the Ewen Bridge or Melling Bridge and walked along the track between these two bridges on the western side of the river before being killed.
