Stolen property treasure trove uncovered in Epuni

1 min read

Lower Hutt Police uncovered a treasure trove of stolen property in a house in Epuni today - items which are believed to have come from burglaries across the Wellington Police District.

Compressors, cameras and other electronic items including tvs and radios, construction and household power tools are included in the haul which was found during a search warrant at a private house. A quantity of pre-cursor drugs was also found.

Inspector Geoff Gwyn, Lower Hutt Response Manager, said the extent of the haul surprised police. "Items, some of them in boxes, were piled waist high in one of the rooms. We filled our caravan and a couple of vans."

Police expect that it will take several days to catalogue all the items and try and match them to reported burglaries.

"We believe the haul has come from a variety of house and commercial burglaries, including construction sites."

Inspector Gwyn said people who think their property might be included in the haul should contact Lower Hutt Police.

"The successful haul was the result of an intelligence operation that culminated in the arrest of a man last night for assault, and the subsequent execution of today's search warrant at his address."
