Detective Sergeant Bill Van Woerkom, Masterton Police CIB, said the identity of the man is not yet known. He has head and facial injuries however his condition is described as serious but stable.
Part of central Featherston remains cordoned off as police examine the park where the man was found earlier this morning. Part of Fitzherbert and Fox Streets are closed while officers search Featherston Park, the park by the Fell Engine Museum and area near the RSA for indications on what might have happened to the man.
"We don't know as yet who the man is. He's European, possibly in his 30s to 40s, has very short brown hair," Detective Sergeant Van Woerkom said. "When he was found he was wearing khaki coloured camouflage style trousers, a blue jacket and brown shoes."
