Porirua Police encourage residents to report suspicious activity after two incidents in recent weeks where Tawa Intermediate students have been approached by strangers.
About 8.30am on Friday, 29 August, a boy walking along McLellan Street to school was stopped by a man described as Indian, driving a pinky red car, possibly a Toyota, and offered a ride.
Detective Simon Humphries, Porirua CIB, said the student refused and kept walking despite the man's persistence. Once at school he alerted teachers.
The man was in his 60s, medium build, with short, dark hair and pimples on his face. The student believes the vehicle's registration started with a 'S' with a dent on the rear panel work near the licence plate.
This incident happened two days after a female Intermediate student was followed as she walked home after school in the Victory and Davidson Crescents areas. The man was described as Indian, but in his 20s and he was walking, carrying a black back pack.
"There are some similarities in both cases," Detective Humphries said. "We urge people to note the descriptions of people they believe to be acting suspiciously and report the details to us."
