The search by Hamilton Police for the man alleged to have attacked and sexually assaulted a woman by the Claudelands Bridge on 24 February culminated in an arrest overnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of Hamilton CIB said the man was located at a rural property just outside of Whangarei.
"Hamilton Police had been working very closely with their counterparts in Whangarei who located and arrested the suspect last night.
"He is being held in custody to appear in the Whangarei District Court on a number of charges."
Mr Page said the victim had been told of the arrest and is relieved by the news.
