Police today said the findings by the Independent Police Conduct Authority review into the shooting of Graeme Burton early last year found nothing unexpected and were consistent with those identified by police.
The IPCA review was divided into two phases: the shooting by police of Graeme Burton, and the events surrounding that; and the action by police from the day of Burton's release to the day of his shooting.
"The findings of the review are as expected and consistent with a number of those identified during the police debrief and review of the incident," Wellington District Commander Superintendent Pieri Munro said.
The IPCA made six recommendations, none related to the shooting itself, or the actions of police on that day.
"The review found the actions of the officers involved in the shooting of Graeme Burton to be reasonable, justified and in the circumstances the officers acted with considerable courage,' said Superintendent Munro.
"Police have established a programme of work to address the concerns raised by the IPCA in its recommendations.
"In addition, there has been legislative change made by Parliament to the Parole Act which has dealt with police concerns regarding inadequate legislative protection against information being disclosed and this will overcome some of the difficulties highlighted in this case."
