Henderson Police are questioning two youths after a drive by shooting in the West Auckland suburb of Kelston.
Police say they were called to the incident at about 8.50am this morning Friday 22 February 2008 when a 15 year old schoolboy was shot at by the occupants of a passing car.
The young victim was shot in the finger with a BB gun while he was walking along Archlynn Road, in Kelston. He has a pellet embedded in his left hand and is receiving medical treatment at Waitakere Hospital to remove it.
The student is the only person injured in the incident. Police enquiries have identified the car involved and two 16 year old males are currently being questioned about their alleged role in the shooting. The circumstances of the incident are still being determined. There have been no arrests at this time.
Police say everyone needs to be aware that BB guns are classified as air guns under the Firearms Act. Serious penalties are imposed for their improper use.
On this occasion the finger injury suffered by the victim was relatively minor but it could have been far more serious if the student had been hit in the head or the eyes. The dangers of any BB gun should be obvious to everyone.
