Auckland City Police are warning anyone who's offered high spec firearms at discount prices not to enter into negotiations and to call Police.
Twenty five firearms were stolen during a burglary at a Mt Roskill gun shop shortly before 10pm last night. They include four Rizzini 20 gauge shotguns, six 12 gauge shotguns, seven Tikka bolt action rifles with silencers and scopes and eight 12 gauge Beretta semi-automatic shotguns.
Investigators are concerned the security around the Carr Rd shop was not as robust as it could have been and it appears whoever burgled the premise knew what they were looking for.
City West Area Commander, Inspector Jacqui Whittaker, says anyone who owns or trades firearms needs to be licensed to do so and it's important that, if any or all of these weapons appear for sale online or in the black market, Police are notified.
"I am concerned that these weapons have been stolen in the first place and, moreover, that they could be traded amongst more criminals. Clearly the firearms are already in the wrong hands and we are working hard to track down the offenders and guns."
Police have been at the scene since the manager of the premise flagged down a passing patrol at about 10.25 last night.
Police forensic staff along with photography section, firearms licensing and CIB officers are investigating the burglary and appeal to anyone with information about it to contact Avondale CIB on 09 820 5730 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
