Levin man in hospital after serious assault

Police have launched an investigation after a man was admitted to Palmerston North Hospital this morning after being seriously assaulted in Levin.

The 53-year-old Levin man was found injured at his home by his caregiver around 8:30am this morning. The caregiver immediately notified emergency services and the man was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said: "Early indications suggest the man has been a victim of a serious assault. We have secured the scene and a scene examination is underway. Officers are also in the process of speaking to witnesses and the man's family. We have not had the chance to speak to the man as his health and wellbeing comes first."

At this stage Police do not have all the details but are completing an area canvas.

"We encourage anyone who may know something about this incident to come forward and contact us," said Detective Senior Sergeant Sheridan.
