New Plymouth Golf Club burglary: Police charge co-offender

Police have charged Adam Morehu's co-offender after the incident at the New Plymouth Golf Course yesterday (8 June) morning.

The co-offender, a 32-year-old New Plymouth man has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, and being a party to using a firearm against a police officer and using a firearm in the commission of an offence. He will appear tomorrow in the New Plymouth District Court.

The scene examination is continuing at the course.

A blessing and karakia was performed by a local kaumatua as the body of Mr Morehu was removed from the scene yesterday evening.

Mr Morehu's body has been transported to Wellington for a post mortem to be carried out. The post mortem is likely to be completed late this evening.

Central District Commander Superintendent Russell Gibson said: "We are in the very early days of a three-part investigation and there is still alot of work to be completed. We also have a large area to canvas and the current weather conditions are not helping with this."

The scene examination is expected to take another day or two. Approximately seven police staff have been involved in the scene examination today along with two ESR staff. A number of items have been secured at the scene including the offenders motorbike and a firearm.

"Along with providing support to our staff we are also working with Mr Morehu's family and keeping them updated on the investigation," said Superintendent Gibson.
