Second person dies after firearms incident near Kaitaia

A 38-year-old woman who was critically injured after a firearms incident near Kaitaia yesterday died in hospital late last night.

A 38-year-old man will be appearing in the Kaitaia District court today charged with two counts of murder.

Police launched a homicide investigation yesterday after the incident at a Fairburn Road address.
A 44-year-old man died at the scene. No other people were present at the address at the time of the incident and Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Police are carrying out a scene examination today. They are asking anyone with information on events in or around 24a Fairburn Road to contact the Kaitaia Police on 09 408 6500 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
