Waitemata CIB in Henderson is investigating an incident in West Auckland in which a 21 year old man has died after being hit by a speeding vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Roger Small says the incident happened at about 6.30pm Monday 19 November 2007 on West Road Road, in the suburb of Glen Eden.

"The deceased man was unloading items from his truck when he was hit by one of two vehicles travelling in close proximity to each other. Five others with minor injuries were taken to North Shore Hospital. They have all been discharged."

Officers from the Serious Crash Unit went the scene and the sector on West Coast Road where the fatality occurred was closed for several hours," he said.

"The full circumstances of what took place are yet to be fully determined. We have numerous witnesses to the incident and are asking anyone who has information to come forward. Our enquiries will continue throughout the day."

"We are especially interested in talking to anyone who saw both a Blue Nissan Skyline and a White Subaru WRX travelling on West Coast Road prior to the deceased being killed."

"The two vehicles are now undergoing a routine examination. It will be some time before investigations are complete and this will determine what charges if any are likely," Mr Small said.

Police have released the name of the deceased man. He is:
