Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place in a Palmerston North suburb yesterday (30 April).
Two properties on Farnham Avenue in the suburb of Highbury were shot at around 10:30pm.
There were occupants in both properties at the time however no one was injured.
Officer in charge of the investigation Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said: "We believe the incident is gang-related however I want to stress that this is not a whole-of-gang issue, it's a conflict between some individuals from the Mongrel Mob and Black Power."
"While we have noticed a slight increase in gang activity in the Highbury area we want to reassure the public that they are in no danger and Police are committed to maintaining safe communities.
"Our Community Policing Officers have strong ties with the Highbury community and they work with residents and local organisations to prevent crime and make the community a safe place to live."
The weapon used in the incident has not been recovered but Police believe it may have been a rifle.
"Today we are carrying out scene examinations at the properties to identify the number of shots fired and the calibre of the weapon. We are also undertaking an area canvas and speaking to residents.
"We want to speak to anyone who may know something about this incident and we encourage you to contact the Palmerston North Police."
