Charge laid over Ryder video footage

1 min read

Christchurch Police have arrested and charged a 28-year old Christchurch man with breaching suppression orders in the Jesse Ryder assault case.

The charge relates to the publication on YouTube of video footage of the two men who have been charged with the assault on Ryder.

It is alleged that the man posted video footage which he captured on a cellphone, in breach of suppression orders issued by the Court which prohibited the publication of the names or faces of the men charged.

The man was interviewed by Police this afternoon after he presented himself at the Christchurch Central Police Station.

He has been charged with one count of breaching a suppression order. He has been remanded on bail to appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday 15 April.

Detective Sergeant Ash Millen says Police hope that the arrest will serve as a deterrent to any other people who may have downloaded, accessed or distributed the video in question, or are considering doing so.
