Specialist staff and investigators from Wellington Police District have early this morning executed several search warrants looking for people, firearms and ammunition.
Search warrants were executed in Wellington city and suburbs (including one at an Abel Smith Street address), Palmerston North and Christchurch as part of the Wellington coordinated phase of a national operation.
Detective Inspector Harry Quinn, Crime Services Manager, Wellington District, said a number of people who are of interest to the investigation are currently being interviewed by police. Firearms and ammunition have been seized.
Searches have yet to be completed at several locations. He is unable to provide further details at this stage.
