The stolen Commodore SV6 that was used during the commission of three armed robberies in the city on Sunday was found, partially burnt out, in Hillstan Place in Onehunga shortly before 7 o'clock this morning.
Police have recovered the vehicle which will be forensically examined and are asking for any sightings of it in the Onehunga, Mangere or Hillsborough suburbs over the past 24 hours. The number plates displaying the registration GPH 784 were not with the vehicle when found.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard says it's also important that Police hear from anyone who may have seen the royal blue-coloured Commodore being set alight this morning before the Fire Service was called to extinguish the blaze.
"Whoever dumped and burnt the car had to have been assisted to get out of the area, so we're keen to hear from anyone who saw this car being driven without plates or with different ones travelling in tandem with any other vehicle and people."
Information can go to Auckland Central CIB on 0274 367 561 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
