Name Released in Invercargill Homicide

Invercargill Police have released the name of the woman killed in an incident at a hostel in Tyne Street, Invercargill, in the early hours of Saturday morning (9 February).

She was Nicola Jean Fleming aged 38.

Ms Fleming resided at the Haven Accommodation Hostel in Tyne St.

A 30-year-old man is due to appear in the Invercargill District Court today charged with Ms Fleming's murder. He was arrested on Saturday afternoon.

The man was known to Ms Fleming.

Inspector Olaf Jensen of Invercargill Police says the investigation into Ms Fleming's death continues today, with 25 staff working on the case.

A forensic examination at the hostel, including the room where the victim was living, continues and is expected to conclude on Wednesday (13 February).

A post-mortem is expected to be completed today.

Police have advised next of kin of Ms Fleming's death and family members are being supported by Victim Support.

Invercargill Police are still keen to hear from members of the public who were in the Otepuni Gardens and Tyne Street area in the early hours of 4-5am on Saturday morning.
