Student has good recall of attacker identity

1 min read

Police investigating the vicious rape of an 18 year-old student in Myers Park in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 6), are encouraged by the fact the victim has been able to give a clear enough description of her attacker to be able to generate a compusketch likeness of him [see attached].

The young woman had fallen asleep on a seat in Myers Park late on Friday night after becoming separated from her companion. She was later woken by her attacker who forced her into a more secluded area of the park - most likely near the Mayoral Drive end - where she was raped and sexually assaulted.

The offender has been described as a Maori in his early 20s of skinny build standing about 165cm tall. He was carrying a small black camera-case style bag.

He had short black hair, a short beard and moustache and had some acne on his forehead. He was wearing a black or dark blue bucket hat, a large white t-shirt and a black zip-up hoodie with dark baggy trousers.

Detective Sergeant Andy King of the Auckland City District Adult Sexual Assault Team says the attack on the young woman was prolonged and he urged anyone with information about who the attacker might be or information about the assault to contact him on 09 302 6611.
