Levin Police launch homicide investigation

Levin Police have launched a homicide investigation following the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old Levin man overnight.

Officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hercock says: “Police and Ambulance were called to a rural address off State Highway 1, north of Levin at around 8:30pm last night (1 February, 2013) after receiving a call that a man had been stabbed.”

“Ambulance staff made attempts to resuscitate the man however he was declared dead at the scene.”

Police have secured the scene and an examination is commencing.

“Our focus is on the scene examination, and conducting an area canvas to determine the sequence of events that lead to the fatal stabbing.

“We are in the process of interviewing witnesses and are making further inquiries to identify people that can assist us with this investigation,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Hercock.

A post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow.
