Stanmore Rd Inquiry release no 3

Christchurch police are continuing to interview witnesses of the fatal shooting of a man in Stanmore Rd on Wednesday evening, and hope to complete area inquiries today.

It is expected that once the scene examinations have been completed later today the road will be opened.

The man has been confirmed as Stephen Jon Bellingham, 37, formerly of Napier.

Police confirm that Stephen Bellingham received two shots to his body - a fatal shot to his chest and one to his leg - and is believed to have died instantly. The incident occurred at 20:37.

The officer at the scene gave immediate attention to the man, and believed he was dead and called for an ambulance.

Police confirm that the ambulance arrived within six minutes of being despatched. St John Ambulance received the call from Police requesting an ambulance at 20:38. An ambulance was en route by 20:41 and arrived at the scene at 20:47.

Once again Police would like to thank the Christchurch public and residents of the area for their cooperation.
