Christchurch Police have advised the man injured in a possible hit and run in Russley early yesterday has died.
Warren Noel Blackett, aged 44, of Christchurch, died at approximately 3.40pm this afternoon.
He had been in a critical condition in hospital since he was found with serious head injuries at around 6.30am on Wednesday in the driveway of a home on Yaldhurst Road.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says a post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.
Police are continuing to treat the incident as a possible hit and run, and are appealing for information from the public which may assist enquiries into the man's movements and the circumstances leading to his being injured.
Earlier today Detective Senior Sergeant Hill said Police were also asking for two youths seen in the area to make contact with Police.
"A witness that has come forward in the past 24 hours has reported seeing two youths, both male with fair hair, running along Yaldhurst Road towards the city in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"At this stage we don't know whether there's any connection between these people and the injuries sustained by Mr Blackett. We appeal for them to come forward and contact us.
"Similarly, if anyone else has seen these people in the area around the same time, we urge them to contact Police."
